Rogues’ Viability in the Classic Burning Crusade
As always, you should enroll in a class that interests you, and these recommendations are based on the forecasts of our Class Writers.
While rogues will always be a viable option for solo questing and PvP, their raid viability in Burning Crusade Classic is not as strong. They lag behind more powerful classes such as Hunters and Warlocks in terms of DPS ratings. This is largely due to the fact that Rogues are extremely gear-dependent, and the greatest Rogue-specific gear will not be available until later in the Burning Crusade Classic.
Rogues do not have a great deal to contribute in terms of raid-wide benefits, despite the fact that they have a plethora of ways to avoid harm. While AoE abilities are limited, Combat Rogues’ Combat Potency places them at the top of the Rogue class for single-target damage output.
While Rogues take a second seat in terms of DPS output and raid utility, there are still plenty compelling reasons to play them.
The Best PvE Rogue Spec
Combat Swords remains the best PvE damage output spec, especially when combined with the triple threat of Sword Specialization, Combat Potency, and Adrenaline Rush. For those seeking a more unique way of life, Assassination with a Mutilate concentration is an option, although it pales in comparison to the raw strength of Combat Swords.
The Best PvP Rogue Spec
Subtlety continues to be the strongest option for PvP rogues. Rogues benefit from Shadowstep’s increased mobility, and their survivability combined with the added bonus of Enveloping Shadows and broad utility make them a viable danger in PvP, even if they lack the raw DPS strength of Combat Swords rogues.
Which Rogue Spec is the Best for Leveling?
Not unexpectedly, Combat is the recommended talent specialty in Burning Crusade Classic, followed by Sword. Purchase a sluggish main hand sword (2.6 speed or slower) and a quick offhand sword, as this strategy is critical for Sword Specialization and Combat Potency.
Subtlety is a viable alternative, particularly if you play on a PvP server. Subtlety has the advantage of not being as reliant on the other two specs for specific weapon types/speeds to maximize their builds. This is a viable option if you lack the funds necessary to purchase targeted upgrades in the Auction House.
Because so many attacks, particularly the devastating Mutilate, rely on being behind the target, Assassination is a poor pick for someone who prefers solo play. If you’re typically leveling in groups, this can be an excellent pick.
